New Modification - BMW R12 Army 1938

Profile of the BMW R12 motorcycle made in 1938 that is destinedfor the Army. BMW automotive company first  introduced the R12 motorcycleseries in 1935, and is the world's first motorcycle powered by ahydraulic telescopic damper trifurcate. With a 745-cc engine and weighs 408 lbs, the BMW-powered R12 20 horsepower at3400rpm and can reach a maximum speed of 75 miles per hour.

BMW BMW-R12 is the most popular type used by the Wehrmacht,although the R35, R71 and R75 were pretty popular and have appeared in photographs of that era.

New Modification - 1928 BMW R42

BMW's first sports model, the R37, appeared in 1924, joining the original R32 tourer. The R37 boasted a new overhead-valve engine producing 16bhp, almost double the R32's power output, but was produced for little more than a year before being replaced by the improved R47. The latter was introduced in 1926 alongside the sidevalve-engined R42 tourer, both models benefiting from a redesigned and more powerful engine boasting detachable alloy cylinder heads and cooling fins set at 90 degrees to the cylinder axis. The engine was set further back in the duplex loop frame, which improved weight distribution and enabled straight front down-tubes to be used. The braking too came in for attention: the old block-and-pulley type rear brake being replaced by a drum on the driveshaft gripped by external contracting bands. Electric lighting was still regarded as an 'extra' and would not be standardised until 1928. Maximum power output of the R47 was 18bhp and its top speed in the region of 70mph (113km/h). R47 production lasted for just two years, 1,720 machines being sold, and today this rare BMW is among the marque's most desirable and sought after machines of the Vintage period. The machine offered here consists of the frame from an R42 (delivered to Leipzig in March 1928) and an R47 engine, and is equipped with a Bosch electric lighting set and UC6 horn, and a reproduction auxiliary fuel tank.

New Modification - 1951 BMW R67

BMW introduced a single cylinder 250cc machine, the R24 in 1948 and followed it with an over head valve, horizontally opposed twin displacing 500cc in 1950, typed the R51. The new machine featured plunger rear suspension and telescopic front forks and was followed in 1951 by a visually identical model displacing 594cc typed the R67. The enlarged model produced a claimed 26bhp at 5,500 rpm compared to the smaller machines 24bhp at 5,800 rpm resulting in an increased top speed from 87 mph to 93mph and would remain in production until 1956, undergoing two revisions during that time.

New Modification - 1934 BMW R2

This was the first BMW to feature a single cylinder engine, establishing a tradition that would last until 1967 of there being at least one overhead valve single in the BMW range.

The new model incorporated features found on the twins, including unit construction for the engine and three speed gearbox and shaft drive. A pressed steel duplex frame equipped with pressed steel forks was employed again reflecting the larger machines. Developing 6 bhp the new model would remain in production until 1936 and formed the basis for later, larger displacement singles.
